The American ambassador in Tripoli discusses with Aqeelah Saleh the elections and budget files

The US ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland, discussed with the Speaker of the Libyan Parliament, Aguila Saleh, the progress made on the elections and the budget for the national unity government.

During a telephone interview made from London, Norland welcomed the firm intention of the Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives to hold the national elections as scheduled on December 24, according to a statement issued by the embassy on Sunday. It also welcomed its assessment of the progress made towards creating a constitutional and legal basis to facilitate these elections.

For his part, Counselor Agila Saleh gave a briefing on the developments in the negotiations to complete the budget that would address urgent and immediate national needs.

Discussions revolve around the legal and constitutional mechanism on which the December 24 elections will be held, according to which there is a deadline until the first of next July for stability on this mechanism, so that the elections will be held on time without delay.

With regard to the budget, last Tuesday, the Libyan parliament members voted by majority to return the budget bill to the government for amendment.
