The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Palestine confirms his country's openness to cooperation with the new American administration



Riyad al-Maliki, the Palestinian Foreign Minister, said that the Palestinian Authority is open to cooperation with the new US administration and that he expects a recent conversation between President Biden and President Abbas, especially since the US administration has begun to encourage Israelis and Palestinians to return to the political process, in addition to what the Palestinians perceive of a positive atmosphere in Washington.


He added in a press conference held today, Wednesday, with journalists, members of the United Nations Accredited Journalists Association in Geneva, by video link, that with regard to the US administration’s request to the Human Rights Council to lift Article Seven devoted to dealing with the human rights situation in the occupied territories and Israeli violations against the Palestinian population, the Palestinian Authority It wants to cooperate with the American administration and that it has no objection to lifting or ending Article 7, but on the condition that the United States provides sufficient guarantees that Israel will stop its violations against the Palestinian people.


 


In response to journalists' questions about what the United States is demanding that it wants to see treatment by the Human Rights Council of Israel like dealing with other countries, the Palestinian Foreign Minister indicated that the Palestinians wish that because the Palestinians do not want an occupying state, and when Israel ends its occupation, it will be treated in the UN Council like the rest Countries.


 


Regarding the upcoming Palestinian elections, Al-Maliki said that all Palestinian parties and parties are cooperating together to prepare for the elections, but the elections will not take place without the participation of Palestinian residents of East Jerusalem in voting freely and without exposure to them and their candidates of the intimidation that occurred from the Israeli authorities the last time, and Maliki called The European Union and the United States put pressure on Israel and confirm that Palestinian residents of Jerusalem participate in voting in these elections and also allow candidates' campaigns to take place without intimidation.


 


Al-Maliki expressed concern about a third wave of the Corona epidemic in the Palestinian territories, and said that Israel had only provided the Palestinians with two thousand doses of Corona vaccines only, stressing that it is an occupying state and under international law it has an obligation to provide the vaccine to the Palestinians as it provided it to the Israelis and called on the Palestinian Foreign Minister The international community will deal with this problem, whether by obtaining the vaccine for the Palestinians from the Kovacs facility or from any other source.
