Indonesian divers on Thursday resumed searching for the remains of 62 victims and for the cockpit recorder of a Sriwijaya Air plane that crashed over the weekend in the Java Sea shortly after takeoff, officials said.
The search had been temporarily suspended on Wednesday due to bad weather that sparked huge waves at the site of the crash. The plane, a Boeing 737-500, was on its way from Jakarta to Pontianak when the accident occurred.
Divers pulled the flight data recorder off the sea floor earlier this week and efforts are still underway today to recover the cockpit voice recorder.
The cause of the crash, which dates back to 27 years, is still a mystery, so investigators rely heavily on the black boxes to determine the reason for losing control of it minutes after takeoff.
