The Jordanian monarch affirms that he continues to bear "historical responsibility" in protecting Jerusalem's holy sites


The Jordanian monarch, King Abdullah II, confirmed during a meeting with representatives of the Endowments Council and the Churches of Jerusalem, the continuation of "bearing the historical responsibility in protecting the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem." Endowments and Churches of Jerusalem in the presence of the Crown Prince, Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II.


During the meeting, the Jordanian monarch affirmed his "support for the steadfastness of the Jerusalemites and their preservation of the Arab and Islamic identity of the Holy City," stressing "continuing the approach of the fathers and ancestors of the Hashemite Kings who sacrificed for the sake of preserving the sanctities in Jerusalem."


He pointed to "continuing to bear the historical and religious responsibility in protecting and defending Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, out of the Hashemite guardianship over them," adding: "We do not accept any compromise over Jerusalem and the holy sites."
