The British newspaper The Independent said that British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is facing a state of anger after it was revealed that he drove his bike seven miles away from Downing Street last Sunday, at a time when the possibility of making the closure more strict with the increase in the number of Covid 19 injuries in Britain increases.
Johnson's tour sparked outrage on social media, with one Twitter user describing Johnson as hypocritical, while another said the closure was apparently designed for youngsters only.
Labor MP Andy Slaughter said that Johnson is once again asking people to do what he says and not what he does. ”However, Downing Street insisted that he was playing sports within the framework of the lockdown rules. Health Secretary Matt Hancock said it is permissible to walk or ride on Seven miles from your home.
Johnson has been seen cycling with security officers around Olympic Park in Stratford, east London, though it is not clear if he rode his bike from Westminster or made it there by car.
The newspaper explains that the anger at what Johnson did came after a fine of two hundred pounds was imposed on two women for driving five miles to reach a beauty center near their homes in Derbyshire. Government directives in England state that people can leave their home to exercise once a day, but discourage them from traveling outside the local area to do so.
Meanwhile, supermarkets are cracking down on their customers, refusing to wear masks and ignoring the rules of social distancing while shopping for basic commodities, amid deep concerns by retail workers about their own safety.
